Happy Spring to my PSHA Family.
As is usually the case around here, we’re going through the schizophrenic weather that
has us enjoying trail rides in the sun one day and buttoned up in rain gear or looking for
an indoor arena the next. One way or another I am sure you’ve been working your furry
beasts back into competition shape – Maybe yourself too!
This weekend, we have a one-day show in Lynden, which really marks the start of our
show season. As we look ahead at the end of the month, we start seeing the calendar
fill up with shows. An exciting time where we kick off the journey to state finals and
Interstate.
With that, keep in mind it’s a long season. Take your time and take care of your furry
athletes. We ask a lot of them to get through the season.
As we start looking at the season ahead, what else is going on?
Junior Royalty: Last month, we rolled out our Junior Royalty Program. It’s a great
opportunity for our younger riders to get involved and drumming up financial support for
our organization and State Finals and earn great prizes along the way.
If you want more information, be sure to take a look at the packet on the website or
reach out to our committee: Kelbi Bower, Andrea Croft, Maddy Olson and Melonie
Parks.
Interstate: Speaking of royalty. We are lucky to have two fantastic princesses
representing our state. Maddy Olson and Kaydn Collins. While these two are competing
against each other, I have been so impressed with how they are working together,
carrying a fantastic attitude and sharing their friendship and mutual love of interstate on
display.
As we move through the season, be sure to stop and talk to them about Interstate, ask
them impromptu questions, give them an opportunity to practice their speaking skills
and rodeo runs.
Way to go ladies!
Convention: April also means it’s time to start thinking about Convention. If there is
someone that would like to take on planning or looking for a venue to host convention,
please feel free to reach out to me or the executive committee about a convention guide
list of requirements. We’ll want to look for weekend availability around the last weekend
of October or first of November.
Executive Business: As added to the rulebook at Convention, our Executive team has
been meeting and trying to stay up on the business. My goal with this is that our team
will be more ready to talk with you about the organization, we can keep a better eye on
the budget and do our best to proactively work on the health and progression of the
organization. In doing this, I will be able to add a section to the newsletter like this that
will give better transparency of what’s going on to you.
Right now, the two biggest things going on are the actual development of a budget and
a fillable and payable membership form. We are doing pretty well financially. After a few
rough years leading up to and coming out of Covid, we have rebuilt our funds and put
some money into savings. Now we are looking at how we can give more back to you
without jeopardizing the future of the organization.
Our Membership form is in the final stages of development and should be ready to get
started in the coming weeks. It may evolve, but we need to get started. Hopefully doing
this will open the doors to making other things easier to sign up for and get paid in
advance.
Please keep your eyes open for opportunities on how we can get better. We want to.
Sometimes it’s just a little slow to make happen.
